Warfare Innovation
Ukraine has once again set a record for something not often achieved in warfare — they have given Russia a combat loss of a Su-57 “fifth generation” fighter jet without the Su-57 ever having been in actual combat. Russia’s fantasy jet is massively advertised but, like all Russian superweapons, has little to show for it. The T-14 Armada and the Su-57 have not seen combat, and the T-90 “Breakthrough” has failed to live up to its name, performing no better than the T-72 and T-80 tanks. Ukraine used a drone to strike at an airfield over 600km from Ukrainian-controlled territory, destroying at least one of Russia’s six functional airframes. My favorite quote from a Russian Telegram channel is, “This means the enemy, using drones made from shit and sticks, managed to destroy a new generation aircraft.” Along with the Su-57, two air defense units at the same airport were destroyed. This all happened at Akhtubinsk, and reporting is from Russian Telegram channels.
